Athletes Support Gay Marriage!

On March 7th 2013 two hall of fame athletes signed a letter supporting gay marriage which is now on it’s way to the Illinois house. Former Chicago Cubs shortstop Ernie Banks and former Chicago Bears defensive end Richard Dent along with former Bears Hunter Hillenmeyer and Brendon Aynbadejo, stated that they believe that gay marriage rights should be legalized and that same-sex couples should be able to marry. “In sports any time a player is not treated with fairness and respect the game is diminished” the letter reads. “Similarly, treating any group of people as second class citizens it hurts us all because discrimination is wrong no matter the target.” It also states. This is a bill that would make Illinois the 10th state to legalize gay marriage was approved by the Senate and has the support of governer Pat Quinn. It is now moving to the house where it promises to be more continuous. Ayanbadejo, who now plays for the Baltimore Ravens, has always been an advocate for legalization of gay rights. Along with Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, Ayanbadejo wrote and filed a brief support of gay marriage in California about a month ago. Many state that they believe it is no longer about gay rights but about equal rights and fairness of the people and supporting gay rights is getting us one step closer to a better and fairer society.
